I think after writing, editing is the most important aspect of filmmaking.
I salute and thank Shri Waman Bhonsle for giving me some knowledge of editing. He is not only legendry editor but also a great human being.
When I was assisting Shri Mahesh Bhatt, I learnt a lot from him. I was amazed to see his judgment to use shots and that too with correct length.
Now what is editing?
It’s nothing but to place shots (visuals) in order… in correct order…with correct amount of length.
Suppose you film a sequence which has a lot of shots. An editor would place them in order as scene requires.
We shoot scenes as par locations or light patterns. So most of the time sequencing goes up and down.
Sometimes we shoot end of the scene first, sometime middle shot etc.
So after it reaches the editor, he makes the order right and makes the scene proper, as it was written.
I salute all editors as they are the one who actually graph the film. They are unsung heroes in our film industry. Their contribution is huge.
