Director's Diary By Vivek Sharma - Part 14

Long back I was planning a film called Barrf. It’s a violent love story. I remember I met Danny saab who read my script and said its very verbose. “Bohat dialogue hain film mein.” Which was true. I am a talkative person so are my characters.

I read my script once again and realized that yes, there are too many dialogues and that’s making some moments repetitive. I am showing it visually also and saying it also.

I think that’s the big difference between Indian films and international films. Our films are very talkie. We spoon-feed audience. There are few makers who are careful about it though.

I started to look at each script differently. Even started watching films differently and I realized that narrations are of two kinds. One through dialogue and other is through Visuals. Sometimes, both.

Visual takes time to synch in but dialogue brings your focus immediately. With Visuals one has to add or remove sound to make it powerful and effective. Even one transition shot can change the meaning of the film.

It’s amazing. Cinema is a medium of audio and visual. Very powerful and effective combination of sound and visual. They both compliment each other. Both are important and hold equal place.

mind blowing article once again. Cinema is an audio visual medium and your fote is certainly, your narrative.
A simple narrative can be as effective as a complex one. But its important not to underestimate the audience anymore.
There is so much to learn from your articles vivek ji.U must write a book. Pls consider it seriously!
