Kal Kissne Dekha – Characterisation
Now I am all set to start Kal Kissne Dekha, a script very close to my heart. The moment Jacky came to know that his name in the film will be Nihal Singh, he reacted, “Meri pehli film mein mera naam Nihal Singh? Sir, Sir please… Let it be Raj, Rahul or Sameer.. Please.”
I said, “Don’t worry, it’s a character and I am sure it will be very popular.” He kept on insisting me and my co-writer Sudhanshu to change the name but in vain. This director is very clear, he believes in the journey of characters, not gimmicks.
For days I sat with my lead actors and we did a lot of talking. One day I narrated them a sequence…where Jacky does something heroic in the film for the first time. At the end of the fight sequence Nihal Singh says, “Dekha sabka haal…Nihal.”
Everyone reacted positively, and by now, Jacky was relaxed. He got the character right, Nihal Singh from Chandigarh… and the actor in him became Nihal Singh.
