It was bright and sunny outside, Sonam was sitting pretty in her stunning black off-shoulder dress in her dad Anil Kapoor’s bungalow, looking more beautiful than ever before. Having worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Saawariya and now Rakeyesh Omprash Mehra in Delhi 6, she would only hope that the latter does better with the audiences and the critics alike. Here is what the pretty lass had to say about the film, role and her funny costar, Abhishek Bachchan, exclusively to Pankaj Sabnani from BIGOYE...

What is the film Delhi 6 about?
Delhi 6 is a film about the people of Delhi. But more importantly, it is film about the people of India. Delhi is used as a symbol representing India and the people of India. When I first heard the script from Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, I thought that it was a very noble and honest film.

What is your role in the film? Is it similar to you in reality?
I am playing a girl called Bittu. She is a girl of today. She is an aspiring singer in the film. She represents the youth of India who wants to create an identity for herself. Like most Indian people, she also wants do more that the mundane educational degree and marriage. Everyone in the country will identify with her. I felt the same way. My mother wanted me to go to college and marry a nice guy. But I wanted to ac

t. I wanted to listen to my parents but, at the same time I wanted to do what I wanted. Though Bittu is from Delhi and I am from Mumbai. There is a huge difference between Delhi and Mumbai girls.

So what kind of research you did to play the Delhi girl Bittu?
I did quite a lot of research. I watched a lot of films about Delhi girls. I spoke to many of my friends who are from Delhi and observed their mannerism. Their body languages and accent are a lot different from Mumbai girls. I researched about food as well. Like for instance, I didn’t know that Pani-puri is known as Gol-gappe in Delhi.

Your dance song, Masakali is being appreciated a lot. How was the experience shooting

with the dove?
Yeah, the song has really become very popular. I think the credit must go to choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant for that. I just copied what she did. Actually, the pigeon was supposed to sit on my shoulder. Maybe, it thought that my head was a nest and preferred to sit on my head instead (laughs). That's how you see it in the song Masakali.
